Embracing Change
”Hello and welcome to another Brain Blinkers Bullet Point. I’m at the beautiful Dalton House here in Hyde Park and my lovely home, the city of Sydney. I am ready to go onstage for the Contact Center Week talk. I thought I’d take a couple of minutes to talk about a wonderful Ted Talk that I saw by cool Jason Clarke who talked about embracing change.
He talks about embracing change and you know, that’s a topic that we cover a lot in Brain Book. It is about the mental attitudes and beliefs around change. He talks about four doors and it’s just marvelous how he puts it together. I strongly recommend you have a look at his Ted Talk. The focus is on four doors.
The first door is things that you used to be able to do and still can do so nothing changes. It’s just business as usual. You know, keep going and keep doing what you’re doing.
The second door of change is things that you weren’t able to do and still can’t do as a result of the change. So again business as usual, so nothing has actually changed. And you get to think about these different doors.
The third door is things you used to be able to do and because of the change now you can’t and they’re the things specifically that you got to let go. This is where you’ll have a little bit of traction with people who say “well this is going to change” “it’s going to make an impact on me”. Yes sure, and they’re the things you need to let go.
But door four are the other things that you couldn’t do before the change, but now because of the change, you can do. These are things you go for.
I really liked that analysis because everything is in change. It’s not all bad. It’s going to work for me, will in fact. There are four elements to it and two of them have business as usual one. Yes, you will have to let go. It is a fantastic opportunity that you can go for because the change enables you to do something you couldn’t before. Such a fantastic way of looking at change.
